History
The recipe of Hypocras
is allotted to the famous Greek doctor Hippocrates (5th century B.C). Much later the
knights were conquered by this true "magic potion" and
brought back the recipe of Hypocras to Occident.
It is thanks to
its so pleasant tastes and to its invigorating virtues and even
aphrodisiacs (one ensured...) that Hypocras becomes the Trendy Aperitif
in the Middle Ages, in particular.
Another version:
aromatic plants were added and spices to preserve the wine in the
middle Ages, that one called hypocras.
Suggestions:
Hypocras is to be drunk cold and without ice with aperitif but also with cooked dishes
(Bourguignon with spices, duck with fruit, chicken with dates and prunes),
the medieval terrines and dessert.
